• King (Healer) – Uses the Hearts deck.
  • Heals self or adjacent allies.
  • Can revive adjacent allies with 1 HP (they can act immediately).
• Rook (Tank) – Uses the Spades deck.
  • Draws enemy attention (agro).
  • Absorbs damage.
• Knight (Melee DPS) – Uses the Clubs deck.
  • Deals damage to adjacent enemies.
  • Can move 2 spaces, or move 1 and attack in the same turn.
• Bishop (Ranged DPS) – Uses the Diamonds deck.
  • Attacks at range with reduced damage by distance.
  • Targets must be in straight line of sight (orthogonal or diagonal).

• Black King – 50 HP
  • Ranged attacks without damage penalty.
• Black Queen – 40 HP
• 2 Rooks – 30 HP each
• 2 Knights – 20 HP each
  • Move 2 spaces if in direct line of sight to a party member.
• 2 Bishops – 20 HP each
  • Ranged attacks with reduced damage by distance.

• Separate the playing cards into 4 decks by suit. Shuffle each deck.
• Party Start: All party members begin on tile A1. Only on turn 1 may multiple members share this tile. All but one must move from A1 in the first turn.
• Wall (Pawn) Placement:
  • Roll a d6. Alternate between wall tiles and empty tiles using the roll result.
  • Move right to left, then down the board to place pawns.
  • Walls may not be orthogonally adjacent. Skip to next valid space if needed.
• Enemy Placement:
  • Place the Black King on H8.
  • Roll a d6, count that many spaces from the King (including walls) and place the Queen.
  • Repeat the roll and placement process for each remaining enemy.
  • If an enemy lands on a wall, continue to the next empty tile.

Player Phase: Each party member chooses one action:

• Move – 1 space in any direction (Knight moves 2 or can move 1 and attack).
• Party members may pass between diagonally adjacent walls (pawns). Orthogonally adjacent walls may not be passed through.
• Use Ability – Flip top card of that member’s deck for power.
• Hold – Take no action.

Enemy Phase:

• Enemies are resolved in order from the bottom-left to top-right (left to right, bottom to top).
• Targeting:
  • Enemies target the nearest party member.
  • The Rook (tank) always takes priority as a target when multiple party members are equidistant.
  • If there are multiple valid targets and one is not the rook, randomly select a party member by rolling a d6.
  • This targeting rule applies to both attacks and movement.
• For Each Enemy (in order):
  • Attack: If possible, the enemy will attack a party member.
    • Enemies adjacent to a party member will attack.
    • Ranged enemies (Bishops and Black King) attack if they have a direct line of sight, orthogonally or diagonally.
    • Ranged enemies deal 2d6 damage minus the number of empty tiles between them and the target (except the Black King, who has no penalty).
  • Move: If the enemy did not attack:
    • If the enemy has a direct line of sight to a party member, it moves 1 space toward them (Knights move 2 spaces in this case).
    • If the enemy does not have line of sight:
      • Roll 2d6. Treat the result as a clock direction (e.g. 6 = 6 o’clock).
      • Move the enemy 1 space (Knights also move only 1 space in this case) in that direction.
      • If the target space is occupied or invalid, rotate counter-clockwise until a valid space is found.
    • Note: Enemies may pass between diagonally adjacent walls (pawns). They may not pass between orthogonally adjacent walls.
